ROOM DESCRIPTION
Welcome to Room 3, The General Store Room, at the Mason House Inn. This room offers a captivating journey into the past, allowing you to experience the charm of an 1850s general store, right here in the heart of historic Bentonsport.
A General Store Experience:
As you step into The General Store Room, you'll be surrounded by an array of vintage tins and staples, reminiscent of what you'd find in an 1850s general store. It's like taking a step back in time to set up housekeeping in the 19th century. The room also features a fresh produce and dry goods department, adding to the authentic general store ambiance. This building originally served as Bonaparte's train station and, in the 1960s, was dismantled and brought to Bentonsport, where it was repurposed as a quaint little store. The items you see in this room today are what remain from that store's history, carefully preserved to pay homage to its past.
Private Entrance and Riverside View:
Enjoy the luxury of a private entrance from the porch, complete with a swing, where you can relax and take in the tranquil view of the Des Moines River. It's the perfect spot to unwind and immerse yourself in the serene surroundings.
Family-Friendly Accommodation:
The General Store Room is designed to accommodate up to four guests, making it an ideal choice for families. It includes a king-size bed for the adults and two twin-size beds, perfect for children. Please note that the twin/trundle beds are intended for children, not full-size adults.
Preservation of History:
The items you find in The General Store Room today are remnants or artifacts from that little store's past. These items have been carefully preserved and incorporated into the room's decor, allowing guests to connect with the history of the building. This preservation effort ensures that the rich history of the building is not forgotten and can be experienced by those who stay in the room.
